Home of The Braybrooke Dragon
We’d love to introduce you to the new protector of the garden, and invite you to come and see our newest staff member whenever you’re next passing!
Made in Zimbabwe, this beautiful sculpture has been lovingly hand made over the last 5-6 months using recycled metals that may otherwise have ended up as yet more landfill.
You’ll see bicycle chains. You’ll see brake pads. Offcuts of oil drums. Spark plugs. Cogs, nuts, bolts. An incredible piece of art which is put together with such skill, to make a 17 foot, 1.5 ton long beastie which now takes pride of place in our display garden.
Our dragon has been made by a company called Travellers Finds, based in the Cotswolds.

Owners Kes and Lacey work closely with a group of artists in Zimbabwe, helping finance a working infrastructure to enable them to produce amazing art. The village in Zimbabwe suffers from regular electricity outages which makes production impossible….Kes and Lacey have helped them overcome the local problems, and in return they are offered hand made, completely unique, pieces of art.
But we’re missing something….
And that’s a name for not one, but two dragons. And this is where we need your help…
From Saturday 8th June 2024, our two dragons will be available to view in the garden for all to see. And we’d love you to see them. But we’d also love you to tell your children that our newest additions need names. And there’s only one way to name them….
CHILDRENS STORY WRITING COMPETITION STARTS SATURDAY 8th JUNE
Children from the ages of 5 to 14 are invited to write their own story about our dragons, but most importantly, they must give them each an AMAZING name…
There’s no minimum, but a maximum of 500 words. There will be three prize winners, one for each age category (5-7, 8-11 and 12-14). The overall winner will have our dragons named after the 2 dragons in their story. We’ll also print the story next to the dragons, in our garden for all of our customers to read.
If they attend a school within 15 miles of the nursery, there will also be a prize for their school!
Or for the youngsters, we’re also running a colouring competition for the same 3 age groups…..all three will win a prize and all three winners will also be dispalyed in our garden for everyone to admire.
INTERESTED?
If you have children who might be interested, please come over and say hi to our dragons from Saturday 8th June. You can pick up a competition flyer from our tills, alsong with a drawing outline for the kids to colour in.
Rules of competition are on the back of the flyer. Or, if you’d rather print at home, simply email us at service@theplantman.net and we’ll send you a pdf file of the flyer and the drawing.
Closing date of the competition is Sunday, 11th August, and winners will be announced on Sunday 1st September 2024.
A 9 metre telehandler was needed to manoeuvre our new friend!
Just an inch to spare to get through our gates!
And finally in position after a nail biting hour or two!
Flyers and drawings can either be printed from these images, or can be picked up at the nursery.
